In November, NÖÖSKER, a European Union trade mark owned by Nöösker OÜ, was chosen in the Patent Office as the trade mark of the month. The trade mark has received protection for non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages and catering services.

Under the name Nöösker, Estonia's first meadery operates in Roosna-Alliku. Caroline Aruoja, co-founder of the company, tells us that the name Nöösker means "restless animal" in the Kolga-Jaani dialect. "Restlessness is what characterizes our product development. We produce all drinks in limited quantities and boldly experiment with flavors," Aruoja opens up about the reasons behind the birth of the trade mark.

On trade mark registration, Aruoja says it was inescapable for them as an ambitious company: "We don't want to get into disputes while being guilty ourselves for having left our home front unprotected. We are proud of our name and do not want it to be copied!"

As the Estonian market is small, Aruoja says, many beverage manufacturers target export markets - so do they. For this reason, the mark became registered straight in the European Union. To catch the eye abroad, the fascinating name is rather helpful in the entrepreneur's estimation, because it seems exotic. Therefore, they were not intimidated by neither the diacritics nor the unusualness of the word while choosing the name. Aruoja finds that Estonian raw materials are high quality and Estonian is a beautiful language - they are worth taking pride in them and introducing them around the world.
