Since April 1st, Janne Andresoo assumes the position of Director General of the Patent Office. According to the top executive, it is crucial that the office's activities support the competitiveness of Estonian entrepreneurs and creative professionals both in domestic and international markets.

Andresoo has extensive experience in developing cultural and scientific institutions. From 1997 to 2023, she held leading positions at the National Library of Estonia, including the last 15 years as Director General, where she was responsible for the strategic development, digitalization and international cooperation of the organization. Before joining the Patent Office, Andresoo worked as the Development Director of the Estonian Health Museum.

The previous Director General of the Patent Office, Margus Viher, led the office since April 1, 2015. During his management, the Patent Office became a competence center for intellectual property, providing advice to entrepreneurs on intellectual property matters and offering fast and effective protection for trade marks, designs and inventions. In 2021, the Patent Office was also tasked with responsibilities in the field of copyright.

The new Director General sees the Patent Office’s role primarily as a supporter of innovation and entrepreneurship: "The Patent Office has proven itself as a strategic partner for innovation and entrepreneurship, providing high-level support in protecting intellectual property. I believe it is important for the Patent Office to be an active advisor and supporter, helping Estonian businesses and inventors to protect their intellectual property more effectively and create maximum value from it."

Andresoo’s goal is to continue developing the Patent Office into a modern, client-focused organization that supports the competitiveness of Estonian businesses and creative professionals both in domestic and international markets.
