The trade marks were chosen from among Estonian trademarks registered in the Estonian Patent Office in 2022, which were particularly playful with language, beautiful-sounding and inventive, or otherwise verbally and visually striking and memorable.

The Estonian Patent Office's trade mark of the year 2022 – chosen by the people – turned out to be the trade mark MÄÄ belonging to the company Villatoode OÜ operating in southern Estonia. Under this cheery name, innovative, eco-friendly fertilizer pellets are made from sheep's wool. According to Sander Veskimeister, the company's creator, coming up with the trade mark didn't take much work. „We want a short, snappy name that would be memorable and simple to pronounce. During a fun brainstorming session, one of the owners made the sound of a sheep [Mää in Estonian] and the matter was decided,“ says Veskimeister.

Additionally, Institute of the Estonian Language, the Chamber of Estonian Patent Attorneys, and The Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry gave out special awards to their favorites. The Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Institute of the Estonian Language rated the trade mark VAGA (acoustic design panels from recycled sea plastic) as the most outstanding in 2022. “In our opinion, the trade mark must stand out in the market, feature an intriguing game of language and ideas, and convey a inspiring tale. It was important to us that the trade mark also spoke to export markets at the same time,” says Mait Palts, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
