This prestigious annual event, organized by the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), celebrates innovative designs registered in the EU.
With over 800 applications from across Europe this year, the awards highlighted aesthetic value, market impact, sustainability, usability, and innovation. There were four categories: Industrial Design Award, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Award, Next Generation Award and lifetime Achievement Award.
Piil, designed by Arseni Timofejev, is a compact and functional house that minimizes environmental impact. Timofejev emphasized the importance of protecting his design by registering an industrial design to prevent copying.
This is the second time an Estonian company has reached the finals of this competition, following Cleveroni’s success last year. The award in the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Category went to Swedish designer Per Brickstad for a transparent turntable.
Margus Viher, Director General of the Estonian Patent Office stressed the importance of protecting creative work to prevent theft, encouraging designers to register their innovations.
