Tomorrow is the 100th Anniversary of the Estonian Patent Office

The Patent Office was born together with the Estonian state. On 23 May 1919 an official on patents was appointed by order of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Estonia. This day is the beginning of industrial property protection in the Republic of Estonia and thus the birthday of the Patent Office.

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Estonian Patent Office, Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Itellectual Property Organization, and António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office, will pay a visit to Estonia on May 23. Together with the representatives of other European patent offices, they will attend the conference dedicated to the anniversary. The theme of the conference is artificial intelligence and smart economy, the subject of the reports ranges from the definition of AI, the possibility of protecting AI as industrial property and the statistics in this area to the use of AI in theory and practice in Estonia as a modern digital state. The latter will be represented at the conference by Estonian companies Telia, LHV Finance, Elisa, Celcius Data and Speakly.

On May 23, to celebrate the Anniversary of the Patent Office, a stamp and envelope will appear with a tirage of 20,000, and the first day cover stamp will be introduced.

The Estonian Patent Office is a government agency that operates in the area of government of the Ministry of Justice and implements national economic policy in the field of legal protection of industrial property. The Office provides legal protection to patents, trade marks, utility models, industrial designs, geographical indications and integrated circuits.
