The President of Estonia announced today the "Act of Amendment to the Copyright Act, Taxation Act and the Principles of Legal Regulation of Industrial Property Act" (amendment to the so-called blank media tax system and extension of the functions of the Patent Office) that was adopted in the Parliament on 16 December 2020.

The legislation amends the so-called blank media tax, the author's right for a compensation if their work is copied for personal use without their consent, and transfers some of the functions of the Ministry of Justice - in the field of copyright and related rights - to the Patent Office.

These tasks are mediating the information on the status of orphan works (works that do not have rightful owners) in Estonia; exercising state supervision over the activities of collective management organisations and organising the work of the Copyright Committee.
