Patent attorneys provide services in the field of legal protection of industrial property. A patent attorney is a person who before applying for a patent attorney’s profession has had work experience of four years at a patent attorney, passed a qualification exam and has been entered into the state register of patent attorneys. The activities of a patent attorney are regulated by the Patent Attorneys Act.

A patent applicant may contract with a patent attorney for the attorney to prepare and manage all patent documents. An applicant shall grant authorisation to the attorney to file the application and communicate with the Patent Office. Notarial authentication of authorisation is not required. Unlike in case of law firms, authorisation cannot be granted to patent bureaus.
